Fife Flyers ice hockey club are excited to announce the addition of Defenseman Tyler Heidt.
Saskatoon born Tyler played Junior A hockey for two seasons in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League with the Melfort Mustangs. The left shot blueliner, who originally played forward, then decided to return to school with the NCAA’s Merrimack College for three seasons spanning the Covid pandemic. The 25-year-old continued his studies when he joined the University of Regina Cougars in the USports for two seasons playing along side Brady Pouteau. In his second year, during the 22/23 season, he lead the team in points averaging almost a point per game and was named to the Canada West All Star Second Team. He signed his first professional contract to complete that season with the ECHL’s Reading Royals. He was retained by the Royals last season but his season was ended prematurely through injury playing a total of 37 games and returning 5+9 in his ECHL career.
On signing Heidt Coach Coolen commented ‘Tyler Heidt was a CIS Canada West All Star. He is an offensive threat with excellent mobility who excels on the power play. He led the U of Regina in minutes played and scoring two seasons ago.’
On signing with the Flyers Tyler added ‘I am very excited to join the Flyers and hopefully help bring home some silverware! I have heard so many great things about the history of Fife so I can’t wait to get the season going!’
